What's going on with the lot on the far side of the Reef RV park? Does anybody know?

They're putting up the homeport buildings there, thats moving along too.

I think they are building the rebar columns for the overpass.

You would think they could do a better job of placing the blocks.

Should of taken pic, the road to Cholla is too washboard out, destroy most cars going to JJ's. The overpass road is an obstical course, careful on the entrance to town.

That would make sense. That's what we saw, rebar columns.

That's what we thought too. They do look haphazard.

The road to Cholla is really, really bad. Was surprised that it was like that over Memorial weekend. You would have thought with all the tourists in town that they would keep it up better.

Thinking about this some more. Why would they build anything for the overpass in that location? Seems like they would be doing that closer to the overpass intersection where they have started pouring concrete in molds, which I'm assuming are for the overpass. (Not the molds that are being poured for the homeport). Maybe those rebar columns are for the homeport buildings?

Terminal for Homeport, I should of taken a pic but that road is too messed up to stop. Won't be going down that road unless it's someone else driving.
brokenwave
The rebar columns being built next to the Reef RV park are for the cruise port terminal complex.
The road:
They waited until the Wednesday after Memorial Day weekend to scrape road to Cholla. I haven't seen the road that bad in a few years.
But it was still better than in the 80's and 90's when parts would just fall off your car from the vibration driving down that nasty road.
apricot
The road was good for a while on Wed after they scraped it, but it was getting really bad again the very next day.

I hope they get the road in shape for Circus Mexicus.

Don't need to drive that road for the Circus! Circus is in front of Changos.

It goes over 4 days. The first and last days are at JJ's. http://www.circusmexicus.net/#circusmexicus

Nope in front of Changos, It would be east of Bandidos.

Hope you guys are right about those rebar columns being for the homeport terminal. After seeing the pics Buffalo Marty posted today in the overpass thread, those columns that were being built on the lot on the far side of the Reef RV park do look exactly like the ones in his pic for the overpass.

How is camping at the Reef? We stayed there years ago, but have been staying at Playa Bonita lately. We need a place that we can store our trailer when not using it. Playa Bonita is full so we were considering the Reef. Any opinions for the Reef? How about the construction going on? Will that affect our staying at the Reef? We're also looking for a boat launch in the area of the Reef. I have a 4X4 truck and a small boat so we can launch ourselves if there is a place close by. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Claudia is going to put many of the usual PAN suspects in prison. The theft of all the money for the Heradura mine to Penasco stretch of the coastal highway and the hole in the Sea where all the money goes...aka the Homeport...will be dealt with...

I was thinking when the HOMEPORT is finished and the cruise ships dock a daily daredevil leap over Crater Elegante by a brave daredevil in his van full of crash helmeted blue hairs would be a great show.

We were down there last weekend. They were work'n away on it. There are a crap load of castings curing and mixers and haulers going, it was busy.
But we noticed from the edge of town all the way to where we stay, the whole town was hard at work. It was actually noticeably busy in a good way.

They should paint those goofy looking concrete blocks to look like rocks!

It's going sink anyway with all that weight. A panga launch next. Sorry, I couldn't help myself..........

Sorry, but that is hideous. Have they started building the terminal at all?

Jaws 5 Rocky Point coming the summer of 2017. ( right). I predict the first 5 year old eaten by a shark drawn to the area by this environmental disaster in the making will be blamed for his demise by our boosters..."well he should have swam faster"

So basically they're saying, "We have no idea if/when this will get done". Yikes...

I knew we'd never actually see successful cruise operations out of RP, but figured they might at least get a terminal built.

On a incoming tide the baitfish running the shore will get pushed (after being confused) around the tip by the usual suspects and the whole east/left side will be great fishing with the end being the hot spot.. Can't wait!

That's a good sign but the post about the Leopard Grouper and other top predators, though young, hanging around the area is even better. There's a lot of, though tiny and some microscopic at this stag, life floating around in the currents every spring that are just looking for something to cling onto or hide under and they will find a home there. (food) Then as the diversity of small fish, crustations, mollusks and plant life grows and lives on and around those rock's,(food) it's just going to get better for bigger fish. Now if we can just keep the nets out.

One is thinking of it from a revenue aspect and the other doesn't wanna see a relaxing way of life disappear.

That article is a reprint from something earlier in the year, and funny I am out there almost everyday, I go there with my travel trailer for a few days a month and stay at the Reef RV park and I have never smelled any diesel, sounds like someone is anti port and that's OK but there is some responsibility when you publish a story. Leave out the theatrics and just tell the story good grief.

if the 30 year old rust bucket crashes in front of the Sonoran we can at least see it on the weathercam!
I picture Wendy being chained to one of those 3000 lb blocks if she keeps messing this thing up..."It means having to retrieve all the rock that was pulled away imagefrom the jetty and repack it back along the sides, then support it while the giant cranes carefully place the cubes on top to hold the rocks in place until they are settled. "

I played that craine-stuffed animal game at the pizza parlor in Idaho last week...I might be just the guy to snag those blocks...

The winter storms are the ones that will really test the Jetty, with the El Nino supposedly happening it, could mean even worse winter storms.

Keep wishing for a fail. Negative people are correct about 95% of the time because it is the path of least resistance and does not require intellect or creativity. Just beat your drum against anything positive......so sad really.

Your comment about 'negative people' makes no sense. How is it they get to be correct 95% of the time??

You are the one that identifies any comment you choose as negative Russ, irrespective of the intent of the poster. I'm surprised you have not poo pooed the burglaries in the Malecon. Truth is that the Sea of Cortez serves up some big waves and all of your positive talk will not calm a raging sea. Remember what it did to the Malecon a few years back.

I hate thieves but they are out there and we need to protect ourselves from them its no different here than anywhere else if you are gone for six months at a time or whatever ....you need to have a plan. Regarding negative people being right its because negative people are louder than positive people so they must be right. I really don't want to beat a dead horse to death but the project has been flawed from the beginning. No pay for the workers, no permit for blasting, no rock wrong rock storm took away small rock. Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce are coming for a tour this week, to see all the progress on this baby.

All their going to see is Hot and Humid and a busload of slick presentations on what could be, if those in charge of this cluster had a clue.

Personally, I'm not totally opposed (60/40) to the project, I just think RP needs a, lot, lot more in place to make this thing work.
And if cruises do actually start stopping here, Hope they use Smaller Ships, less than 2000 passengers for the sake of RP's lack of infrastructure.

My exact thoughts from the start. Infrastructure should have been at least started at the same time if not sooner than the jetty.
