A buddy and I are planning to go fishing in RP this weekend and in need of a boat and captain. We're bringing our float tubes and flygear and plan to fish off playa del oro but would love to do some trolling with fly rods off a boat. We've been out with "Captain Gringo" a number of times and would like to catch something other than rock fish. Anyone going down? We'll chip in expenses? Thanks, K

Hmmm, interesting. I live in Yuma and have a 26 foot Chaparral Signature. So far, weather looks great for Friday. I'd consider coming down tomorrow (Thursday) later afternoon and going fishing all day Friday to Area 51 (51 miles out) (or stay closer if you prefer) for big fish (grouper, halibut), if you're interested. It costs me around $600 to do a boat trip from Yuma (fuel, toll charges, launch fees, etc) so if you guys were willing to pitch in $200 each we could split it 3 ways. So that would be $200 each for a full day out to Area 51. Would also have to check the weather at the last minute tomorrow before I leave to make sure it looks good (so far it does) and know that you're 100% serious, because I don't want to make it down there and find out you changed your mind. If you are interested and serious reply to this and perhaps we can exchange phone numbers for final arrangements.

As a side note, if $200 is too much I totally understand, when you're driving up to the Malecon there's just always a few guys at around the public boat launch that'll take you fishing nearby for less.

Thanks, James.

Hi James,
Thanks for responding. I think we'll pass this time. We aren't planning to be down there until noon Friday and will return Sunday or Monday depending on the fish and weather. If you're planning a trip again soon, let me know. We're pretty flexible.
Thanks,

Kent

You are not going to catch any gulf grouper on the 51 , but if you can brave the heat you may catch flounder and calico bass(extranjeros) but definitely not on fly lines. YJ, drop the "area" off of the 51 and you'll be talking like someone w/ experience out there. This is a great time to fish from the 40 on out but when the weather cools shortly there will be even better fishing.

No problem Kent. Good luck and hope you guys have a good time!

Tom - What's biting in Lobos now? I haven't fished there in the fall. We did well last January.

Never gonna fish, but I'll take a ride to Lobos. That's on the agenda this winter. Get out of Penasco and head south a bit.

Good calm day down our way lots of whales etc.

This morning it was incredibly calm but now it's windy and choppy

Remember the water gets deep closer in in Lobos. Shorter run time = more fishing time. Deeper water = bigger fish.
