Looks like the cartel boys are puffing up their chests against each other again. 5 dead this weekend, at least two Americans. Article in AZ Republic this morning about it; the consulate has issued a travel advisory for Americans -- first update to the warning since Jan. 17.

Macho Prieto and the incident in Penasco were mentioned in the Republic article, as well as Chapo. The prevailing line of thought from the DEA is the Beltran boys may trying to take back some of the turf that used to be theirs.

Was that a print edition ? Like to read it but can't find it. I looked everywhere, even in the garbage here !!!

Roberto - Yes, it was in the print edition of the Republic this morning. But those two links cover the same info almost verbatim.
I'm not one to try to raise the hysteria level, but when the consulate puts it out there, it's worth a listen (most of the time).

Prolly an AP release. Nothing wrong with good information. I was thinking about crossing at Nogales soon so I want to think about it now.

I live in Nogales and cross the border here every day. There are random drug-related murders here all the time and no one ever really cares- I think the trigger here (no pun intended) was that 1 or 2 were US citizens. But they were STILL drug related- I would give it more credence if there were 'bystander' US citizens.

Point taken and that has been the case with many of these warnings. When the cartels start kidnapping American babies and hanging their dead little bodies from light poles, yeah, then it's time to worry. Sorry, bad example, but that simple truth still remains -- they aren't out there gunning down random American tourists. The ones being executed are involved in one way or another. When tourists start dying, that's the game changer.
