Paint advice

I would like to know which brands of paint are the most durable for PP weather. I'm going to paint my sundeck and porch and want it to last as long as possible. Thanks.

Well, if you buy it in the States, I highly recommend Duramax from Lowes. It's expensive, but it has a lifetime guarantee. And I mean a real lifetime guarantee, when you buy the paint Lowes signs a contract/guarantee with you that if it chips, fades, whatever, they'll fix it. Using an airless sprayer I painted the outside of my previous house with it and loved it, its an unusual paint because it just about goes on like a thin sheet of colored plastic, it doesn't flake off like other paint, its like a thin coat 0f plastic. I sold the home a few months after painting it, and the appraiser asked where I got the paint, if fact I think he appraised my home a little higher because it had this paint. Like I said, its expensive, but you'll never paint the outside again.

Do they have the bright Mexican colors or can I get it mixed, James?

Oh, my brain hurts. I just read about all the different paints Duramax has.....They have some pretty cool colors....

Paint is one of the things, that can't be brought across the border, not saying you can't, but it may get confiscated this is lowes paint on the floor of a house, I juzt finished, with a low gloss floor finish on top. Owner didnt want carpet, tile or wood...super easy to clean and 1000 feet cost around 150.00.

We used a product from Dunn Edwards that was like a thin plastic film, or like an elastomeric. Professionally applied, primer where necessary, all done by the book. It looked awesome when first applied even having a low sheen. After time it started developing small blisters, like everywhere, especially on the beach side of the house, walls, etc. Many of the blisters became huge, 24" in diameter, and eventually peeled off. The stucco under the blisters was even damaged. Turned out the paint couldn't "breath" and trapped moisture that caused all the problems. It was a huge mess that was a nightmare to re-do. When it was re-done we used a good quality Dunn Edwards "flat sheen" paint that didn't trap moisture and it has held up fine.

As far as I know, you can get the Duramax from Lowes in any color you want.

Bill, Vininex satin or Vinimex ultra? I couldn't get the descriptions to load.....

Not sure which would be best for a deck, but I painted stucco walls with the satin, it was excellent. .

On the exterior, Prime with Luxon Primer. It's a sealer and primer that's supposed to lock in the salts and efforvence so they don't lift the paint, then put on two coats of paint (Ultra Duracion). I used comex last time, the white last but the colors fade, Damn "Brisa" eats everything...Sheman williams is on Benito

I used Sherwin Williams on my house in PP and the colors did fade, bad.

bring your paint from the US I have brought down over 100 gallons of paint and even with a red light they never took it or even said anything. It is well worth getting the US paint

8 year old Dun Edwards paint still looking pretty good.The color has not faded much.I have had to repainting my other house twice with white paint.The first was from Ace in Caborca...never again

Jeeps, be sure to prep the surface well. Is your deck wood? A lot of the problems people have with painted surfaces, wood, concrete, stucco etc. result from poor and inadequate surface prep. Most people blame the paint but more often than not the prep is the problem. Sometimes old paint needs to be removed. The surface needs to be clean and dust free. You should put as much time or more in surface prep than in painting. I bet there is a site on the net detailing what needs to be done to prep different surfaces before painting.

That proposed merger never materialized, in fact Comex has a current lawsuit against S-W for breach of agreement. Bring down Dunn Edwards, I did in a few trips with enough paint for my entire beach house and so far it is holding up very well after 2 years.

Used some Valspar Reserve satin from Lowe's 2 weeks ago. Really good results. Covered easily in 1 coat.

As important as the paint itself. Power washing, allowing the wood to dry completely, scraping, sanding, caulking, priming, the BS part of it. Painting is the easy part! Just got back from the new Dunn Edwards place -- just south of where Constituccion and Benito meet up at the traffic light, west side. The English-speaking guy in charge said they've only been opened 3 weeks, and -- while his grand opening sign is not up yet -- he currently is offering a grand-opening 50%-off sale. He said that he opened the place for the purpose of bringing higher-quality paint to Penasco, but admittedly is a little worried whether there truly is a demand for the higher quality. (Thanks for having mentioned it, Playaperro -- this is timely for me.)

I went to Alpha Graphics this morning and the girl attending, mentioned the new Dunn Edwards next door belonged to her husband.. Anyway her husband popped in and introduced himself and mentioned he also works in construction, So I asked him, what he was doing now, he said he was working on the homeport, so I asked him if he worked with Wendy Wizner, he said he was her boss and in charge of the whole project and mentioned that it will get finished...Also he is bringing his paint from the Dunn Edwards plant in Phoenix,
