I know The Hut on Sandy Beach was suppose to open in early October. Any idea if the will be open today for lunch? If so I am there.
Pinky
My understanding was that it was to open Monday.
mermaid
Was that Monday of this week or next?
Pinky
Monday the 7th

Went to the Hut for the Cardinals football game Thursday, Not impressed at all.
Summary as follows.
Service was ok, except it took 25 minutes for a follow-up drink order, table for 2.
Food took 30 minutes.
Chicken Wings, advertised as 1lb they were the smallest wings I have ever seen, no drummets at all.
Celery and Carrots were a whole 2 oz total, Wow really disappointed.
Mozerrella sticks were all cheese and almost no breading, Wings and Mozz sticks were semi cold.
Ordered a hamburger and fries they were pretty good for anywhere 7-8 out of 10.
There were random power brownouts resulting in some of the TV's getting slow/cutout video of the game.
The AZ Cards got beat, sadly and,
The check came to $33 for 1 wings, 1 mozz, sticks, 1 hamburger and fries, 2 Cokes and 2 Sol's.
Gave 500 pesos and got back 4 dollars, works out to a 15.15 exchange rate for them.
at 12.5 it should have been $40 instead of $46. Asked about it and result was a $3 tip and will
not see me again. I usually give places here 2 tries but Chango's was actually better. IMHO.
Too many other places like Bryan's, Boo Bar, Capones even JJ's with same or better food,
that may try harder to serve me better and not take unfair advantage of the peso/dollar rate.
Pinky
My family had the same experience a week ago on Wednesday. Ordered potato skins only to be served a tiny baked potato topped with bacon for $8.00. Service was slow but we understood that the wait staff had little to no training. Ordered wings and they were the smallest I have ever seen. We miss the wings from Wing's Army, the best wings franchise in Mexico. The shrimp made mom sick and the exchange rate was the worst ever. They did not have any change or a starting bank. All of this while the owners went around the room giving out t-shirts to their friends and ignoring the other tables. Nobody seemed to care about our experience and we will not be back. I see too many places open here in Rocky Point where the owners feel they are owed the business. A few months later the business is closed and the owners can't figure out what went wrong. One would think that experienced owners like Randy would understand.
stingray
We went last night and it was about 20% full. The upstairs was closed off. We usually stop in for french fries on the way home. Now the kitchen closes at 10:00....
badfish
We went the day after it opened. We didn't order food but did order drinks. Our sever was funny, quick and polite. We didn't experience any black outs. We will go there again.

That's a shame, I thought it was such a nice place, and the owners and staff went out of their way to make you feel welcome!

I went there Nov. 16th, for a second time, food is OK, wings were a joke again, 1/2 the size you get in the USA, (must be using quail wings of something, LOL).
Nice place, service was good, but food was average at best and expensive for what you get.
Too many great places like Bryan's, the Boo Bar and other places to go, not going try it a 3rd time.

At least have the courtesy and tell the members of the forum that your opinion is biased as you are related to the owners of the Hut. Maybe you were the one getting the free t-shirt while our table was ignored. By the way, I did go back and the service was just as bad as the first time.

Related to who? Just wanted to express my opinion regarding the new establishment, but someone seems to have a bone to pick (a chicken bone that is - haha). I did not get a free T shirt, but if you have an extra one I'll take it. Thanks!
Lisa F.
Regardless of who is related to who, the owner of a business always appreciates hearing constructive criticism directly and in person. It is not not nice or fair to bad mouth an establishment without giving them a chance to make things acceptable (in your opinion).

Lisa is related but she clearly wants to avoid answering the question. Please know that I did address my issue in person and I was ignored. Despite my requests to speak to someone, the owners were too busy wooing friends and family at another table (please see my original post) to deal with the issue. Maybe if the staff/owners took my feedback seriously, the bad review would never have been posted. The misleading review posted by you tends to back up my earlier statement that many business owners practice entitlement instead of good business.

Ma'm , the only way you would know my last name is if (a) you are stalking me, or (b) you are a supposed friend of the owner. Since you seem to be so upset about not getting a t-shirt, I will personally see to it that you get one!

Nobody is stalking you nor do I have a problem with you. I am simply an observant person. In fact, I was excited to learn that someone with some actual experience in the bar business would be taking over Chango's after the building was repossessed from Larry. I thought that the changes to the décor were excellent and that they were a positive sign of what was to come. In the end, I was extremely disappointed with both the service and food. To be honest, I have heard the same complaint from many of my customers who would never post a review. These customers will simply never return to give the establishment a second chance. Instead of us beating each other up on a newsgroup, why don't you kindly pass this information along to the owners and see what can be done about it. I would love nothing more than to the see the Hut be a great success. Rocky Point needs a good bar that has a focus on customer service.

Capone's has great service, but yeah, one in that location on Sandy Beach would be great.

Excuse me ma'm, but you clearly do have a problem considering that you felt the need to research my last name and post it online. You are not beating me up on a newsgroup, you simply stuck your foot in your mouth and can't get it out. Did anyone ever tell you if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all? Please remember, what goes around comes around.

Sorry....you are the one who stuck their foot in their mouth with the bogus and biased review of The Hut. The world is filled with online sites where people post reviews and other experiences with various industries. Our tiny community has grown stronger due in part to the fact that others can relate their experiences (good or bad) here for others to read. Angie's list. Ebay, Amazon and more have all thrived under this business model. Instead of EARNING business and loyal customers by providing a decent product or service you have created a delusional notion that your family can obtain customers by way of Jedi-mind-trickery. What goes around does indeed come around. I own a very successful business and place the feedback and opinions of my customers far higher than the childish rants of family members who clearly can't comprehend objectivity.

By the way, this is really deep. I didn't realize that saying I had a pleasant experience somewhere (where I am a supposed family member) is delusional and JEDI-mind-trickery (does anyone know what that means?). I will certainly be more careful next time and follow the rules of the business model. Thank you for your feedback!

I was not the first to post on this subject. I had a follow up review that related an honest experience. Much like what happened with the reviews on Mexico Beach Bum, a family member comes here and tries to sway others with a biased statement. Lisa continues to try and distance herself from the familial relationship by stating "where I am a supposed family member". I have had my share of customer complaints over the past few years, but I appreciate the feedback as it helps me to provide a better service. I don't let my family members insult customers for having a negative view of my services. My company is Rocky Point Cleaning & Management.
Eric
Wow....Cant we all just get along....I for one am glad the Hut is in RP....I live in RP and eat there fairly frequently and I have had good service & good food there....There are lots of great places to eat/drink in RP & no establishment is going to please 100% of the people 100% of the time. But anytime someone invests money into RP & brings a cool restaurant, bar or whatever its a good thing & we should try to be supportive....If you dont like the service somewhere then tell the manager......And if any place truly has bad service or bad food or whatever then dont worry things will take care of themselves & that particular place wont be around for long.......
Kenny
I think Lisa might be right, get her a T shirt. After all, how could Lisa sway anyone with just ONE sentence?

Hahaha - I honestly don't know! I am not a wing person myself, so I didn't try them. There's no such thing as Rock Cornish Game Hen wings, is there?
GV Jack
Yes there are such things and the whole ones can be purchased at C & S Food Supply.

Kenny, you can keep the wings and give me the rest to grill, one of our favs in this house.

PS: I think they are called Rock Cornish Hens or Game Hens, but in our house they are
"Little Birds". Whatever you call them they are delicsh. Grilled with a glaze of Maple Syrup,
Dijon, Butter and Thyme as they cook. Yum Yum.
Kenny
It was just a little levity as I've never been to either the Reef or the Hut, but I do like those little Chickens, especially on the grill...."The Cornish Game Hen is a product of crossbreeding the Cornish chicken with other breeds of chickens. The result was a smaller, plumper hen that produced only white meat. The average weight of a game hen is 2-1/2 pounds".

In defense of the size of The Hut's wings, they are probably small because they aren't bloated in size by hormones and steroids like they are in the US.

In defense of Pinky though, I totally agree, it's creepy when someone closely attached to a restaurant's testimonial is exposed for their bias, while attempting to be anonymous. Isn't that called "collusion" ?

I'm surprised you'd find this sentence in or out of contex "creepy".

"Creepy" and "exposed"??? Wow, over a restaurant review?? I don't even know Pinky, and I don't have a clue as to why or how she thinks she knows me. I think it's creepy that she went so far out of her way to find out my last name. As far as me being closely attached, I live over 3,500 miles away in NY!!! And just so you know, "collusion" is a little bit more illegal than posting a restaurant review!

Sorry Kenny. That's my purse and it has one of the great bricks manufactured in the great state of Ohio firmly placed inside.

Our friend Roberto never knew what hit him. I'm going to have to retire from the fights though because I'm just getting too old
to swing that thing. As far as dog is concerned his spiked heels got caught in the mud from the storms the other day.

First let me say, I am not related to or in business with anyone associated with Wrecked at the Reef or The Hut. I am however a long time customer of Jen and Leo's prior establishments, the little Wrecked and Jen's Joint. Anyone who spent any time at either place knows that Jen and Leo are the nicest couple running any bar / restaurant in Penasco. They always go out of their way to assure the customer is happy and made to feel welcome. The Hut was a big step up in size and scope from their 2 prior establishments and some growing pains can be expected. While no one would say that Wrecked at the Reef is the cheapest place in town to eat or drink, it is very well run and more consistantly good than the competition. Give them a chance to get the kinks worked out and I am sure the complants will go away. Some people however, will never be satisfied and should probably just stay home.
As to the small size of the wings, I'd blame it on climate change.
Kenny
Doing fine until the bad climate change joke.

Ok , enought bickering already !!! We're gonna celebrate the first day of Winter, December 21, with a rumble !!! It's moved to the large empty lot off Calle 12, close to Guau guau to acomodate the expected large crowd of people who are disapointed about the Boomerfest failure and want to celebrate the new Homeport but particularly to , once and for all time to settle the HUT dispute. Saw Lagrimis yesterday and his lime green prom dress is at the cleaners. GV has backed out but offers his purse to any contender who thinks they are tough enough to manage it. The Dog will ride his Harley down, in full leather drag attire. Kenny will wear a modified fish scarin outfit with a leather bra added. Just to show it's an equal opportunity event Pinky and Lisa are invited !! It's a growing event, soon to be one of Penasco's finest what with the new Calle 13 !!

Got a pic of my new heels for the event but as usual can't load it.

My name is Jennifer and one of the managers at The Hut. I am a new member to Rocky Point Talk, so please excuse the delayed reply to your post. Rather than get into any specifics of your experience, I will apologize for it being negative. I do not know why you were served a small potato for $8 rather than two large potatoes for $7 or how our shrimp made your mother sick, but I will assure you we only serve fresh, quality products and charge as our menu reads. Our exchange rate is determined through exchange rate.com, rounded to the nearest whole number. And as for Randy, the owner of the establishment, he is amazing. Not because I am his stepdaughter, but because my husband and I have been running his bars for the previous 2 1/2 years, work with him day in and day out regarding the bars, and not only know how hard he works ALL the time behind the scenes, but now know what really goes into running a restaurant/bar. We do not feel we are due any sort of business, we only try our best to provide one for people to enjoy. I recall the day you must be referring to, and the the free tshirts to friends were actually donations to charity fundraisers. I am sorry my husband and/or myself did not make it your way to personally speak with you while you were there, but we appreciate everyone who comes to our establishments and their feedback, negative or positive. If you will not return to The Hut, I am sorry to hear that. If you do, I look forward to meeting you, providing you with the best food and service we possibly can, and putting your past experiences behind us.

My name is Jennifer and am one of the managers at The Hut. I apologize for two things. First, I am new to Rocky Point Talk. If I had been a member sooner, I definitely would have acknowledged your post sooner. And second, for your unpleasant experience. We have since worked out any kinks, food and electrical included. We determine our exchange rate through exchange rate.com rounded to the nearest whole number. I do not know how you were given the wrong change, at an exchange of 15.5, but apologize and assure you that if this had been brought to our attention at the time, we would have corrected the issue immediately. We pride ourselves on honesty, cleanliness, quality, and service. I am sorry to hear you would not give us a second chance. Being that a considerable amount of time has passed, I hope you change your mind. Our business hours are similar to those of the rest in Peñasco, so unfortunately I do not get to our neighboring restaurants and bars as often as I would like, but agree... Bryan's, Boo Bar, Capone's, and JJ's are all great places. If you choose to revisit The Hut, please ask for myself or my husband, Leo. We love to meet our customers and hear their feedback, negative or positive. Again, I sincerely apologize for your unpleasant experience and hope you will change your mind, give us a second chance, and enjoy yourself at The Hut at some point in the near future.

Thank you. Leo and I pride ourselves in providing the best service, food, establishment in general, that we possibly can. We most definitely try our best, whole heartedly enjoy what we do, and truly appreciate that you not only see that, but have been with us since Little Wrecked! Thank you again.

We went the day after it opened. We didn't order food but did order drinks. Our sever was funny, quick and polite. We didn't experience any black outs. We will go there again.

Thank you. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your experience, and we do hope to see you again.

We went to The Hut the day they opened in October. Although they were still working on the place our service was never lacking. The food was great too. I'm glad to have you guys there.

We are open Thursday-Monday. Thursday, Sunday, and Monday 11am-12am. Friday and Saturday 10am-2am. Happy Hour Thursday, Friday, and Monday 3-6pm. And Sunday All Day. This includes $2 beer (Tecate, Tecate Lt, XX, Sol, Indio, Bohemia Dark, and Heineken), $3 Well Cocktails, and Any Sandwich, Fries or Onion Rings, and Beer for $8. (BLT, Classic, Green Chili, Bacon, and 1000 Island Burgers. BBQ, Bacon Avocado, and Chicken Salad sandwiches).

Shawn Johnson plays acoustic and performs a mix of classic rock and new age from Thursday-Sunday 9pm-11pm. He's awesome. This weekend, though, will be an exception. This Friday night we will be hosting Roger Clyne's January Jam so performance times will vary. Saturday night Shawn will be playing a couple of hours earlier and La Merca, from Wrecked at the Reef, playing at 11pm.

We stopped in on Monday and had a great experience. Staff was friendly and spot-on, and the remodel is super-high-end-classy. Kudos to ownership and management.

Will try it tomorrow night before the crowds arrive for the weekend! Looking forward to it.

January Jam with Roger Clyne Friday night. Shawn Johnson starts at 6pm, Special Guests to follow, and Roger at 10:30. They're covering all of their personal favorites so it should be a great show! If you're interested, tickets are on sale at AZPeacetimeGoods.com in advance for $20 or at the door for $25. All ticket sales are through Roger so we don't have them available in advance at The Hut.

OH!!!!!! That's right. I wish I was going. Already had plans and couldn't afford two trips so close together.
I'm looking forward to the Circus Mexicus.
Any news on that one?

Saturday night is a little different from our usual also, again because of January Jam. Shawn normally performs around 9 but will be playing moreso around 10. Once the concert ends at JJ's, I'm sure we'll have a full house. At that point, we'll have live music until about 12:30 or so.
