R.J. Johnson of Phoenix, Ariz. has a slim one-point lead over Charles Davis Jr. in the USAC Southwest Sprint Car standings entering this Saturday’s race at Central Arizona Speedway in Casa Grande, Ariz.
Johnson outduelled Davis in last Saturday’s 30-lap series opener at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz., leading the final two laps in the Bill Michaels entry. Davis finished second after leading 18 laps, followed by Ronnie Clark, Justin Quinn and Nathan High.
Saturday’s race will mark the debut of USAC Sprint racing at the 3/8-mile dirt oval.
Playa, it's what we have grown up with. Years ago to hear Windy Mcdonald at Manzanita Speedway announce a new track record in qualifying for Sprint Cars would send send shivers up your spine. It set the race mood for the rest of the night. A perfect clay 1/2 mile track.
I know Terry! There are more than a few racer's on here and there was a big race baja style this weekend in Penasco, maybe 40 cars, really cool, maybe someone will say a few words about who won and the classes, real racers....
Kenny, not sure if I asked you before but did you read the book Windy done on Thunder in the Desert from 2004? 360 pages of history of Manzy on a hard back. Only 500 were made and he went by mom's after dad had passed away and gave her a copy in my name. 1909 - 1980 is what he wrote on racing in Arizona.

I haven't read it, but I have looked through it. Windy was showing up with his books for a year or two after Manzy closed with a table set up with his books and all.

I guess sometime that might depend on what part of Casa Grande if you aree close to the HWY we are about an 1.25 hrs away, come down the 79 to the 77, not to bad. Just watch the DPS, it is a training area for them.
I like that track and I'm looking forward to seeing the improvements they've recently made. They widened the turn off of 2 for starters and brought in some clay too. I'll wait for this show though.
