Yum Yum!!!!!!!!!!! Went there for dinner last night and it is better than Old Port Galley!! All you can eat fish, chips and salad for 9 bucks!!! Just like Old Port Galley but way better. Ramon opened the door for us, came out and talked to us, delivered our second and third :eek3: baskets of fish and gave us a piece of his yummy tres leches cake with CHOCOLATE dribbled all over it to share for dessert. I felt like Jabba the Hut when I was done! Ramon has done a fine job going out on his own. The restaurant is beautiful and the prices are reasonable. He also does catering. If you need directions or a phone number, PM me.
Food my be fine, but for catering try someone else, try ripping me off on catering for a wedding that i was having over the summer, i found more people, better food and prices, (have contact's number's glad to help) just a warning i haved my experience with him, don't have him planning your wedding.
Wonder why? Have had him cater several times and never a problem In fact when I went shopping around for prices and extras he was the best price and options that I found. I have found him to always go over an above for anythng I have needed :chef: .

If you guys needed a third basket of fish, the servings must be tiny- Never had to order more than two at old port and that was when we had ravenous teenagers with us.
Where is this place?
Turn east on Simon Morua, (Portugal's corner), go east 9 blocks passing Ace Hardware on the way, turn right on Av. FCO Gonzalez Bocanegra, (Floreria Garzon is on the corner) and go 1 block. La Casa De Ramon is on the left. Yummmmmmay! Enjoy!
Tried this place. Nicely done inside. What we ate was tasty but I was disappointed when I saw the same menu that everyone else has, not much different.
Maybe they were off with people gone to Vegas. Did you have the fish and chips? My friends have gone there every month for 6 months and never had one little complaint. I'd give them another chance.
Another sophmoric dining experience. Ordered a combo plate to sample a few different dishes and some were served cold and all were not worth going back for. I was the only one there and the server was nice but couldn't understand the basics of ordering and serving. I shouldn't have to wait 2-3 minutes to get my utensils to eat. Lame and overrated
Went to Ramons Sat. eve. for the usual and as usual, I was not disappointed! Piping hot fish and fries, great service and the best homemade tartar sauce I ever tasted! They serve a great Bacardi Anejo and Coke, too. Can't wait for the next time! Yum!

The one time I was there, the fish fry was excellent....but....I think Bill's fish fry over Thanksgiving was better!!!!:chef::notworthy:
We didn't go there last night as planned. We skipped lunch so we were hungry early and wanted to sit by the water. We went to Mary's and were a little disappointed. It was HEALTHY fish. We're all about heathy eating at home, but not in RP!
The fish tacos were grilled fish and we expected breaded and deep fried. It was good and there was a ton of fish on each taco, but next time we will order the deep fried shrimp (that looked good).
We still plan to go to Ramon's before we leave on Friday.
Interesting comment about Ramon's catering business. I photographed 2 weddings he catered and both were beyond reproach. He was there through the entire event making sure everything went as scheduled and the food was great!! The restaurant is fabulous....only complaint.....no cole slaw!!!!!
What a lousy dinner we had last weekend. Ramon greeted us and was very nice. After we ordered drinks it took about thirty minutes to take our order but we never got menus. We orders four dinners and three were cold. It was a slow night and the service was even slower. I doubt if I'll be back.
After hearing one of my customer saying that they went to Ramon's and she had the "whole fried fish" I had to go and try it!! went in yesterday at around 4:30 pm a couple was leaving and we were the only ones in the place, a very attentive waitress came and gave us the menus and got our drink order, of course no need to guess, I ordered my favorito and my friend ordered the carne asada tacos plate.
My plate came with a choice of salad or soup, of course I took the "camel toetilla soup" I mean "tortilla soup" and although it was good it was not as good as the one I am used to, it was defenitely hot!!
Then our main course came in and I must say WOW!! the presentation look very nice, I have to give Ramon ten points, he won me just by looking at it, then I had the first bite and guess what? it was just perfect, all I can hear was the fish screaming: eat me, eat me!! and so I did and when I was done with it I eat one of the 2 tacos my friend had left and I must say the meat was cooked with a very nice combination of spices!!
All and all I give Ramon 2 thumbs up, I was worried since there has been so many different opinions on this thread that I was a little sckepticle?sp about going and possibly throwing money away, I hate cold food, specially sushi!! :eek3:
Well, I hate to say this but we went to Ramon's last Sunday for supper and the fish was a little overcooked. Not enough to be a big issue and we will certainly go back but I have never had an issue with Ramon's fish ever. He was busy, tho, and had a table full of unruly kids (early 20's) to deal with. The salsa was waaay too hot for most gringo's, too. I couldn't hardly even eat it, it was that hot! We did share a table with a lovely couple who are now our friends. Hope they sign up for the forum, I gave them the website. We still love Ramon's......!!!!!

We were in a table in the back room, about 16 of us, having fun and eating good, we were pretty roudy but was all family fun laughing type of fun, with the kids and all!!

Did you have the Pargo?
The adults in the table had the last of the pargos, I reserved them before hand, since the last time we were there the people before us got the last pargo, at least mine was cooked just like I like it, perfect!!
Well, we went back to Ramon's last night and it was perfect! Up to his usual standards. When I got done, I felt like JABBA the hut! Yum, Yum! Fish and chips!
You did make my mouth water. We just made a trip to see family on the Oregon Coast. We ate fish and chips at every port and at some ports on the way up and on the way down. We went as far as Lincoln City, Oregon so that was a lot of ports. Fresh fish well cooked anywhere you can get it is heaven. Can't wait to eat it again on the Sea of Cortez!!!!
I had pollo mole and it was great. DH had chile Rellenos and was disappointed - chile's were hard so he didn't eat much. People at table next to us had something that looked good - not sure what it was. Very clean and colorful.
We had the same experience with the chile rellenos last week, they were not as good as we had before however the rest of the food was awesome as always!!
Chari -
we NEED to go there over this next weekend!!!
According to the December RP Times, Ramons has moved to the Sonoran Sea on Sandy Beach." El Restaurante de Ramon is modern with sleek granite tabletoops, has lovely sea views from both the dining room and the outdoor patio seating. Open 8 am until 8 pm"
No mention whether Trailer Trash are still welcome to their new fancy location. No mention that the old location has closed, but I'd bet it has.

Yeah...the all-you-can-eat fish fry for $9.99 will now be $19.95!!! Someone has to pay for the "ambiance"!!
Us "trailer trash" can always pick up some fillet at the fish market, and head on over to Bill & Edna's(Wood Spinner) at PDO....yum...yum!
The Sonoran Sea never had a restaurant with a view of the ocean only the parking lot. The Sun has one called Emillios with no view and the Sky has a nice restaurant with a ocean view that was called Ocean View.
The Sea restaurant does have a view of the ocean. It is not ocean front like the Sky but you can look out over the courtyard and pool area to the sea. The Sun restaurant does not have an ocean view unless you step out the door and look to your left.
WEnt there over Christmas Food good same cooks as his old place , prices slightly higher I thought and presentation more for American taste than the patrons of his other place
Hey, that's not fair!!! The pigeon coopers should have to pay more for the convenience of not having to leave the "compound"!! :stir:
Joe Joe Joe the jealousy lol I will remember that the next time your trailer is rockin like a 1970s dodge van at a Peter Paul and Mary concert:rofl::lol:

Hey my trailer has stabilizer jacks....and the only time it "rocks" is when I have a visitor (or two....LOL)..... :moon: I'm not sure about those pigeon coops....I watched over the years how they were constructed....the first REALLY strong wind.....and .....wooosh....they're gone!!:puff:
Three of us went to the original Ramons night before Easter Sunday and it was very good. Split an appetizer called Seafood Volcano ( or something like that) and it was very different and tasty. We all loved it. 2 got Fish tacos and I got garlic fish and we loved those also. No complaints with both the service and food. When we were leaving there was a security guard watching over our SUV and he was thrilled when we tipped him a buck.
Yup, h's open as far as I know. Get the all you can eat fish and chips! Yummy!
Have you eaten at the location at the sea yet? Is it comparable? I know where the Sea is because we're staying at the Spa. I have no idea where the old location is...
Went with my wife to the in-town location, and my wife was very dissappointed. I ordered pescado al mojo de ajo, which was OK. My wife ordered camarones cordon bleu, which was not as she expected. Her meal came with a salad, which was ONLY chopped lettuce, which made her so unhappy that she refused to eat it. When her main course arrived, the shrimp was NOT cordon bleu. Instead of shrimp stuffed with cheese and ham, her shrimp was covered with a sweet mango sauce! More like Hawaiin or Polynesian style. Complained to the manager, and was told it was cordon bleu "San Felipe" style. Not a satisfactory experience. We will not return.
Rosie's has been our long-time favorite for consistently excellent Mexican food, whether breakfast or dinner. Flavio's is my favorite for whole fried fish (corvina).
Sounds about right S/j, you know that Ramons is only for tourist's, someone looking for a lonely dinner. Take a local or a real regular and you will have the worst
experience of the day.
one of the greatest dishes at Ramon's is the "chiles en nogada"--stuffed chilies in a walnut sauce--beautiful to look at and a taste treat for your mouth--gotta try it!
I try not to say much here but I feel that I need to chime in. I have known Ramon for many years and he is a first class chef. He has catered some events for the Sonoran's and has always done a bang up job - no complaints at all. And, as far as the locals are concerned, he is probably still in business because the locals love him and his cooking. When my office was at the Sonoran Sea, I personally saw how popular he was with both the locals and tourists. To each their own, and every restaurant can have an off day, but in my opinion Ramon's is OK.
I went to his house with lights around it in the hood, was not impressed, never been to the s/s and i don't think i ever will, but i was only reviewing eating at his house and paying top dollar for it. I was not reviewing his place at the s/s just his house place...I do know that he is a very good caterer...Now if I lived at the s/s I would be jumping for joy...Instead of the tortilla coming around...

I have to ditto, what you are saying. We went a couple years ago and not that great.

I am in total agreement. Have tried eating at his house on two occasions, slow service and bland food both times. Too many other options!
