Hello all,
Im hopefully heading down on sunday and plan on fishing from shore. I've never been to La Pinta and was hoping to give it a go, but read on here that the access may be restricted (i.e. "prohibido" signs, etc.). Any new updates?
Also, what are roads like to access it?
Can I make it down in the gas sipper (mazda protege) or do i should i use the suburban (4x4)?
One last thing. Google maps shows there is a road that runs parallel to the beach SE of La Pinta and it looks like it ends at an estuary (?) ? Anyone got a line wet there?
Sorry if this has been covered in past threads, I did a quick search and didnt quite find what i was looking for.

I took the kids to La Pinta today. Found some cool shells and had fun. I went snorkeling for awhile but the water was churning and there was not much visibility. I barely even saw the sign at the entrance and paid no attention to it. It looked like a privately made sign, not something official. Lots of pangeros who all waved and said Hi. As far as I could see, nothing has changed and no one gave me any trouble.
Glad to hear they have not put up a gate. I have not been there for a month or two. One of the most beautiful places near Penasco. I hate to tell anyone about it !!
Drive toward Caborca, go past the Mayan Palace (12 Miles to the Mayan ??) a couple more miles, watch on the right hand side for an abandoned building close to the highway, the entry to La PInta, a right hand turn off the highway right at that abandoned house, is a very wide dirt road. Yes you can easily make it with a 2 WD, to the beach at least. You will come to Gillispie's old hacienda on the beach, lots of parking next to the beach. There will probably be pangeros fishing and maybe 15 or 20 pangas.
Not sure what's gong on with those signs. Part of the road apparently goes through an Ejido, much of it is on private land though. I seem to recal the signs make reference to an Ejido.
No I won't tell you where the remains of Gilliespie's gold stamping mill is located!!! You could find it with a little creative thinking and observation though ! Do a search on this board with the name Gilliespie and learn about his gold mine and adventures.

Last April, I was fishing at the entrance to the marina ( I went to the parking lot at the entrance to the malecon) and someone broke into my truck and stole some tools. I would love to try La Pinta, however I am concerned about vehicle safety.

I wouldn't worry about theft at La Pinta. There are always panga fishermen around coming and going, they keep an eye on their own stuff. I don't think they would tolerate thievery. Its too far out of town for the casual thief too. If you have 4WD you can drive up and down the beach.
