Ok typically I get my tortillas from "the best tortillas in rocky point". It's a little house just north of the Super ley on the right. It is the little yellow/orange painted house on the right side of the road just to the north of the intersection north of Super Ley.
What are some other places with really good tortillas as well as the price?
They are just standard sized maybe 10-12" wide. Usually $1 - $2 per dozen. I typically get flour, not sure if they have corn. They are very good, but usually run out around 1 or 2 so I need some backup plans.
I buy my tortillas, 18 pesos per bag best commercial tortillas I had, at Abarrotes Michigan in the south east corner of Campeche street and Ignacio Ramirez avenue, Campeche is the street that takes you to Mirador area if you continue straight from Benito Juarez instead of going to the fish market, and the other place is in Sinaloa street past the railroad tracks north of Fremont blvd, about 2 blocks in the right hand side, the house has a sign to let you know, I do not remember how much they are it has been a while, because if you are not there in time they are gone, but you can always put an order for later that day or the next day.
You can get fresh tortillas on Josefa dominguez. I don't give very good directions since i'm from Costa Rica. Lets say you are headed to Las Conchas on fremont and you come to the stop on josefa
that would be where the Las Conchas Pemex is. You go left and go over the railroad tracks. You will see the cop stop on your right. keep going and the first stop sign take a left, on the right side
you will see that small tortilla factory. their is a grocery store on the corner. These are big tortillas made with Lard. 18 pesos for 18 tortillas. They are to Die for but they are made with lard.
down the street a little ways they have corn tortillas
Mmmnnnn, the tortillas on Sinaloa street. Warm when you get them. I usually take butter with me and stand in the yard eating them. I know, I'm crazy......:-D:-D
I've bought tortillas from that little place by Ley's. As good as you can get. The best tortillas Are made with lard. Tammy had a pro teach her how to make tortillas when we lived in Tampico. She even has a little piece of dowel for making them with. I don't know why a rolling pin wouldn't work better, but she learned to make them with a stick, so that's how she does it.

I believe it is because the dowel has a lot less surface for the dough to stick to than the rolling pin and maybe by adding the flour in the pin may change the consistency of the dough.
There is a good tortilla stand in Sonoyta about 3 doors down from the big store with all the fountains and stuff - don't remember the name of the store, but it's the large place with the little taco stand out in front (which is also pretty tasty)...\
Anyway, that little place makes great tortillas, always warm, fresh, and delicious.
The other cool thing about that place it is that you can buy a dozen to chow down in the car during the drive....
"As well as Price?" You must be kidding KH? Quality has no price! You want to haggle over something that is sold for a buck? Hint, next time leave at least a buck tip in the tip jar! At the very least do not not pick up your change.
Wow Wahoo, sorry I asked if people could post the price of their favorite tortilla stands! Didn't know it would strike such a nerve. I don't "haggle" over price for tortillas, and even if I did, that's my right to do so.

IMHO she has the best tortillas in Rocky Point. I buy dozens and freeze them. They taste almost as good after being frozen as the day they came off the stove. My kids would give me orders to bring them white cookies from the bakery (which has since closed), shrimp (which I hear is going to get either scarce or expensive) and a couple of dozen tortillas from this lady. Sadly, things are changing.
HK, sorry, do not misunderstand. You do have all the rights, but compare prices when it matters, but for the most part buying tortillas, price is not a factor. (JMHO)
Agreed. When buying tortillas price is not a factor. ;)
Frozen Tortilla's never, used to but never again...
I have to agree, it looses something besides the freshness, it is not the same, sorry just my opinion, as Stuart says opinion are like.........as Kenny says "never mind" and russ will say ajua!! :eek3:
PS: next time I'll try to be more original
Hey Dwig,
Sr. Cornejos (RIP) children reopened his bakery in a new location. I can't tell you how to get there but I can find it. I'll write the directions down next trip and give them to you. The kids are as good of bakers as Sr. Cornejo! Yummy warm crusty bolillos!
On the way back from RP in Sonoita, I like stopping at a tortilla shop that is on the shortcut route. It is right across the street from a tiny convenience store just east of the ice house. We load up and they freeze real well so they do not get stale on you. They look to be a real clean outfit and we love the tortillas.

Right at the speedbump, I been meaning to stop and check them out but am always in a rush to get to the beach!! :eek3:

While at it, how about Carolina's in South Phoenix? Talk about the burro tortillas, they are about 18inches and perfect to go with a Quart of filling. A must during X'mas for the Tamales (12 for about 15bucks)
Here ya go:
for those that are not making the trip south, go to South Phoenix.
Carolina's is the best. They have a new location at the 101 and Peoria. We tried to go there, but the linie was out the door. We plan to go back at an "off" time.
Carolina's is good but Rito's is better. It's a house at 14th st. and Garfield. If you didn't know it was there, you'd never find it except for the line out the door at lunchtime. They have the best green chili burrito, enchilada style, and refried beans that I have ever had! Try it, you won't be sorry. Mon. thru Fri. 10-4. Yummmmmmay!!!!!!!!
I don´t usually eat flour tortillas , But I can say the best corn tortillas I have ever had are from the taco stand vaca chenta which is right across from the laguna shores offices on Juarez. They will sell their tortillas to you freshly made right in front of you. They are the best corn tortillas in town.

We are finally going down after a two year absence. Is this place still open? Can I get directions? Is there a better bakery where I can get those white mexican wedding cookies. My grandkids love them. Thanks!
Getting back to the question of the thread.
The tortilla place north of Super Ley on the west side of the road almost to the light, Tortillas Harina (flour) charges anywhere from $2-3 a dozen, depending on the mood of the lady selling them. They are awesome.
I have seen them using a piece of 3/4" PVC piping to roll them out. They are really fast. In the morning I have stood in line with many locals waiting for my batch.
In many of the small stores they sell Daniela brand (flour) which are pretty good for commercial hand made, a package of 10, $1.25-1.50 for the 10" ones. They have them in different sizes from 6" taco to 14" big burrito sizes.
The also freeze for many months just heat them in a pan and they are 90% of original taste.
Somebody talked about a tortilla store north of Hielo Reyna- can anyone tell me where it was or the description of the house? Also, does anyone know someone who makes bolillos (Mexican rolls). In Kino, we used to go to a house where in the backyard, next to the chicken pen, he had a big brick oven making rolls, and he would pull them out with a large wooden oar. I would think there's someone in Penasco making home-made rolls like that.

There is a big bakery with wood fired ovens over by the ISSST store... it's operated by several guys, and the locals just line up for the fresh baked goods, they are yummy... I'll get better directions and post them later...
Hey Miramar. It's called Carmelita's and there is a little hand painted sign on the fence. It's on the right a little ways before you pass the water store going north on Sinaloa past Fremont. The house is set back from the street. I've been buying tortillas there for over 20 years. Go early as she is usually out of tortillas in the afternoon. They are still warm when you get them and, as I said in a previous post, the piglet that i am, I took butter with me and stood in their yard, eating them.....LOL!
Thanks Seadweller and Ladyjeeper! The bolillo brick oven is exactly what I'm looking for- you can't duplicate that taste in a regular oven. And I'll try Camelitas for tortillas- and I'll bring my Mexican butter as well.

Panaderia industrial has brick ovens and some very tasty pan dulce, They make cakes for most occasions, the birote, bolillo's are right there with the best of them.
MICHAEL KLINE. He went to Prison in New York for mail fraud ,SEE HOW director of the company LAGUNA SHORES, MICHAEL ROBERT KLINE mocks homeowners, AND FRACTIONAL OWNERS .I have michaels voice record talking **** obout owners . DONT BUY ANYTHING FROM LAGUNA. DONT BE IN MICHAELS JOKES. the divorce documents showing that Michael Kline has been ordered to pay child support all these years and has NOT. Yet it appears that he likes to show how generous Laguna shores is to people in Rocky Point at Christmas.......He likes to look good in front of people yet he doesn't take care of his own children.. He was friends with the famous Jeffrey MacDonald:

U.S. Army medical officer and a member of the Special Forces Green Berets who was convicted in 1979 of killing his wife and two children. same time when michael was in prision.what about wife fraud . do you trust in laguna shores?
Fascinating information....
Not sure what it has to do with tortillas, however.
Man I've beat that Horse to death and people just don't want to think that all they've told about lard just isn't true. Kind of like _________________________________________.

True, some don't want to think that this fat might be as healthful or better than that fat. But there are others . . . admittedly few . . . who eat only plant-based things. Non-lard tortillas are likely nonexistent in RP, but I couldn't help but check.
I have two fav's. One is in Sonotya after crossing in. It's where everyone stops for liquor on the south side of the road at the split. It's next to the taco stand that has been there before I started going down back in
1991. The other place is a house on Sinaloa street off of Fremont. The house is on the east side of Sinaloa just south of the water and ice shop. Get there early. I would like to try the one by Super Ley but can't seem to get good
intel on the location.

Hey Seadweller, any update on the directions to the bakery? Heading down in a couple of weeks and we have a couple years of being gone to make up for. You and I talked on the phone a couple years back. It was about living down there. You probably don't remember as you surely talk to a lot of people. Robert
Bringitbig,
The tortilla shop is around the corner from Rosey's restuarant, 1st or 2nd building westside of street, south of the light on Constitution called Tortillas Harina,
They have ice chests on the sidewalk with tamales.
The price varies from $2-3 a dozen depending on the lady who sells them mood. They usually stop selling by 1PM.
Fresh and warm they are very tasty. They don't freeze as well and retain their flavor as does the Daniella brand in many of the Tiendas around town.
My new favorite flour tortilla place is on Sinoloa just south of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla.
2 businesses down from the OXXO around the corner from La Curva.
20 or 23 - 10" tortillas for 20 pesos, they are great and freeze well. They also have flour taco sized ones.

Is this the one just south of Fruiteria Sinaloa? They used to cook and sell from their front porch but recently built a small building in front.
