I have been driving done for 20 years and I am over 70. I don't drive at night. I do not drive at night in Tuscon. My gas tank is full, my cell is charged and I call home when I cross into MX and when I reach Bella. Everyone is happy.

Kate, You’ll have a great Christmas in Playa Miramar. Let common sense prevail and you’ll be fine. It’s interesting how Mexico related news stories can get in your head and make you think it’s different now, but when you finally get down and settled in, everything is the same old calm peaceful Rocky Point.

Regarding driving, my advice is to drive during the day, come to complete stops at stop signs - even the hidden ones, get insurance, drive no faster than 25mph in Sonoyta, watch out for occasional potholes on the open road between Sonoyta and Rocky Point, and you’ll be good.

On your thieving question, advice here is don’t flash cash and fancy stuff and keep your house and cars locked up when away. Keep a critical eye on any unexpected maintenance/property mgr/utilities people who want to come in the house.

That said, have fun! Feliz Navidad.

Totally agree. In fact -- except for the 25-mph-in-Sonoyta rule -- your advice would apply to anywhere in The States as well.

With the rain forecast this week you should be careful on the Caborca Road and the dirt road to Playa Miramar. The Sonoyta River was flowing over Caborca Road at Thanksgiving and the road from Caborca Road to the beach gets very messy when it's wet. Consider using the road to the Mayan Palace if there is a decent rain and I'd recommend driving a high clearance vehicle with 4-wheel drive if you have that option.

Any good restaurants open today and tomorrow? We got into town and the first two favorite ones were closed last night

Always remember that the speed limit signs are in kilometers - so either kph or km/h
