mexicoma, I can understand you wanting to make this voyage, it is an adventure I can understand that also, as I have undertaken many adventure's some that many would consider a little dangerous, very dangerous, to not dangerous at all, just very much fun, have you considered making this trip when a boat or boats will be doing it also, just in the case something should take place, I think that would be very prudent, it should be a fun venture I wish you well, please post the results when it is complete.

OK Rubbertoe, I've been a lurker for some time now because frankly this place is boring. If you're not into fishing, etc there's hardly anything on here. We've lost Jeeper who toward the end was more of a lurker than a participant, the old gang has either died or lost interest. It used to be fun and educational. Restaurant reviews, trip experiences, police reports (present company excluded) just plain old poking and railing, and a fun place to visit. There is no humor because honestly if one looks around it seems there is no humor to be found. We take ourselves much to seriously instead of enjoying the moment. I love Rocky Point and the people of Rocky Point. I wish I had the ability to go there again, but my banker and my body seem to reject the thought. I will say I check into the Senoran Resorts Sky live camera every day just to get an RP fix. My advise is to lighten up, enjoy the time there and be a friend. Fishing is great, but enjoying time with friends, the fabulous scenery, a cerveza or two and thanking God for all our blessings is my charge of the day. Adios Amigos
I have been a looker, lurker, for a very long time, yrs. before I finally decided to join couple weeks ago, I must say I do agree with the last three posts 100% , in that all the banning that has taken place over the yrs. it just leaves a BAD taste with me, we have watched as a LOT of good people have been banned, as said above forum has really been forgotten, started a long slide long time ago, one day if we visit and it is no longer here, NO SURPRISE here, participants should value, ALL those that chose to speak, and not be banned, or fear being banned should be left alone, there are a LOT of people here that if they don't like someone or what they said, off to the administrators they go, to get them banned, It is NOT the fun place it use to be, it surprises us that the admin. hasn't noticed and done something about it, LEAVE THE POSTERS ALONE, as Mexico Joe said above "es muy triste" "how sad " what is happening here, if this bs continues we also, as many other good members have done, fade away .

Just go through the members tab and see all the people who aren't active here anymore.
Since the mini war that occurred at the Bella Serena in Dec. 2013 activity here has steadily declined.

I'm a big fan of the fishing forum on this site and I think there are still a few people that follow it besides myself. It certainly seems like there are a good number of people that prefer this page to the FB alternative.
How long would this journey take in an average gringo fishing boat? I know nothing about this sort of thing but I looked at the map and it piqued my interest. Is this a common trip?
It's about 80 miles, 2-3 hours with calm conditions and 4-5 hrs. if rougher.

A local friend has a 24ft boat with a 120hp outboard on it that took him 8 hours in conditions
that turned bad 30 minutes after he left San Felipe.
He was lucky he bought another 5 gallons of gas in San Felipe before he headed back to Cholla,
otherwise he would have ran out before getting back.

Unfortunately, it’s stuff like this Kenny that sends people elsewhere or keeps them lurking and not wanting to contribute.
I remember one of my first posts, and I was commenting about being at the beach there in Rocky Point, and witnessing one of the most amazing lightning storms over the ocean that I have ever seen. And I mentioned something about The beauty of it, and the clouds and the rain as it turned to night, and the lightning storm continued and I mentioned something about God’s creation in full display or something like that. Can’t remember the exact words, but this is a pretty accurate gist of what I shared and how Jerry replied to me.
And what is the immediate reply from Jerry?? it was something like I am a fundamentalist and shallow minded because I believed in God. Or something like that. It was just a full gut punch to someone who was posting something they were genuinely excited about and had never been on a forum before, and thought I was sharing something super positive and Jerry comes out and just hammers me for being small minded about creation and God’s glory, etc.
whatever the case, I wasn’t preaching, I was just sharing how I interpreted what I was watching and I got jumped on like I was a lowly piece of crap joining this forum.
The unprovoked political attacks, and categorizing people while they are trying to talk about a trip from Rocky Point to Sam Felipe, like this thread and what you Kenny just did as an example, happened hundreds of times with you and your buddy Jerry. You guys would emote, get over your ski tips with your hurt feelings or your anger, and go after people for no reason. There are years, and hundreds of posts of you two knuckleheads just jumping on someone because they didn’t have the same beliefs or political views as your tag team did.
So for you to say you never complained, or weren’t a whiner, that is laughable on its face to everyone reading this .
What stinks is that both you and Jerry have had a lot of valuable and interesting input as well. Your history coming down to Rocky Point in the 60s and 70s is really fun to read. But then all of a sudden, there is some mention in the middle of that interesting thread about your love for Obama, or how you hate Republicans and conservatives, and who knows what else, and then the thread was just trashed.
And the last thing that has always been confusing to me is how does a guy like Jerry, who seems to have unlimited time to post on this Rocky Point form, and for the most part comes across as a proponent for Mexico, can bash and beat up and criticize and make fun Mexico relentlessly, or of people who bought condominiums, or who don’t live in Santo Tomas or who don’t do the things he does, he would just bash and bash and bash.
That was always a strange bipolar type of contribution Jerry made that I could never really figure out.
So for me, I do wish there was more contribution and input on this forum. There are a lot of very interesting and smart people, who have some really great stuff to contribute, and I have very much enjoyed and learned a ton on this forum But I can also see why people lurch for a long time or have gone away, because there always seems to be a dominance by guys like Jerry, or JJ, who bullying, ridicule, and demean. I didn't get any back up from folks that knew me so I quit posting. You have to support the positive people or just give in to the negative. I think the forum is a great resource for researchers. As the forum relates to FB.... it is apples to oranges. FB has a huge audience of really weird people but is wildly popular right now. I make a living off of fb..I do not make a living off or RP talk. I want to contribute but don't want to be torched by some negative POS on a rant. I have been and always will be pro Mex and as I get older I care much less about some negative opinion from someone who doesn't share my life experiences.

As for a jetski to San Felipe? Cray-Cray talk right there. I've transited back and forth from San Carlos to Santa Rosalia a few times, but only on the best of days, in a 28 ft. very seaworthy boat. 75 miles each way. If you're not experienced with the Baja side, I wouldn't attempt it. There are wind fields and patterns that if you're not aware of, they will kill you. There are days I've been at the 51 and it was like a lake, flat calm. Meanwhile, those that went south to the Caballo turned around and came back because it was so rough and blowing to beat all hell. All this in about a 35 mile difference.
Because of the mountains along Baja, it creates different weather patterns than you'll have in Penasco. The same is true all along the Baja side of the Cortez.

Unfortunately there are many uninformed people out there who come to forums like this one for information. Or go to FB because they don't know how to search for info. There is so much non accurate info on the web (known as BS). Sure there are people promoting venues to benefit from.

Before Jetski's became so big, it was a hot boat pulling a waterskier in a race to Cataline that caught people attention and a much tougher trip in my opinion. Oh, they still do it, but the old style SK Boats they used then with big V8's were badass on their own.

Kenny, I must jump in on this one. I never met the chap but, I had more interaction with him than I wanted. Shortly after he was banned both Rubbertoe and I started getting PMs from him. He threatened me at one time saying he knows where I lived and that my house had half moon windows. Well, almost all the house in this area have them. I responded that if he tried anything he better be able to outrun a 45 slug. I didn't hear much from him for a while but he started back in again and wanted to be friends. Bob also heard from him often.
As far as your Dr, Ken's evaluation I think you're pretty much on the right path. I have seen some of the emails he sent both you and Jerry and they were totally irrational and horrid. He was at best deranged and at worst what you said. Someone on here met him and his wife for dinner a few years back and said there was no comparison. Bipolar, perhaps. I have not heard from him for probably two years now, thankfully. I know he fell of a bike or ladder or something and had a severe concussion and was hospitalized for a while. I would like to keep that silence as a permanent situation.

I will tell you, and this is true. Many older timers in Cholla may have known Nonie McKibbon. Nonie has a book published you may have seen, it is about the fishes of the Sea Of Cortez. Nonie was my beloved next door neighbor and we both had places on the water in Cholla. Nonie was pure inspiration for me and at the age of 70 she would sail by herself to San Felipe often spending the night on the water using a sea anchor. I thought she was crazy and refused her offers to take me along in her very small sailboat named the Hurache. Nonie wasn’t crazy, just a lover of life. Nonie eventually lost her life on the water south of Cholla. Do any of you have remembrances of Nonie?

Wish I was lucky enough to have known her, she sounds like my kind of person. Not a bad thing in my book to lose your life doing what your passionate about, especially at that age. I can think of a lot worse ways to go, like dying on the couch because you spent your life being afraid to stand on the gas pedal.
