Interesting hull design. It is super stable in the waves?

I will have to get back to you. I've never had it out. From what I've read, supposed to be one of the smoothest riding hulls out there. Albiet a little ugly.

Cool boat. If you bought it in RP, I've seen it out on the water in the past. Seemed to handle the slop real well. There is a core group out there that has these boats and swears by them. But due to their age, a lot of work involved in getting them and keeping them seaworthy.

I picked it up in Tucson back in June. It was last registered 15 years ago. From the rust on the trailer, it must have been near salt water for quite some time.

Looking forward to you posting progress photos. I love to see these old classics get restored.

Great fun doing a rehab. Lots of sweat and bucks but so rewarding

Looks like it was sitting in water docked at some point with the bottom anti-fouling painted hull. Good luck , looks interesting.

Got some color on today. Tomorrow I am doing from the rub rail down

For the hold downs on the trailer. Already patched the ones for the kicker brackets.
Stuart
What are you powering it with?
Roberto
Looks good. Lots of work. What do you use for the color? Paint or some other material? Was sprayed on, right?

It has a 200HP Johnson 2 stroke that runs good. Will have to do until can upgrade to a 4 strike.

You just MIGHT want to keep that kicker bracket in the meantime!! Hahahaha! The new 4 strokes aren't cheap, but they are definitely the way to go. Not sure how much weight that transom will support, but personally, I'd look at a pair of Yamaha inline 4 150's. If you're going to fish it offshore, twins provide a level of safety and security that a single anything can't.

These motors. 489 pounds each. But yeah, they're like $15k a copy new.

Could not help but notice the heads of the screws which appear to be holding the deck to the body (Sorry, don't know the proper terms). After changing hinges held with similar screws on the oceaside of the house every two years I hope those are stainless !!! Or how does that work?

Yes, all stainless steel. Additionally when i installed the rub rail I used 100 2 inch stainless steel screws. This boat is built like a tank.

Having fun

I'm actively checking the salvage auctions for a damaged hull with good engines. Not ready to spend 30K to re power

Here's the one I was looking at. It's actually not a bad deal the more I think about it. Would put me back on the water again without spending a fortune.

Hang onto your $$$ for a bit Stuart. Fingers crossed that the Airslot will be down in PP on Friday. I'm gonna take it ti Doug at SDS on Freemont for mechanical work and completion. After that, I will be looking for fishing buddies. Especially people that know rhe hot spots! Shark installed today by Beaver Stripes. Windshield going in tomorrow.

Cool... you're gonna need to make a few trips to see what kind of range you'll have. On good water, I used to burn at least 88 gallons out to the 51 and back. How much fuel will it hold?

Some advice? Make sure it's overflowing full when you head out. Do NOT rely on the fuel pumps to give you an accurate fuel calculation of how much gas you put in; they are notoriously short, especially the Circle K right by Safe Marine.

A buddy and I have both been bit by this, putting in what we thought was more than enough gas, only to run out on the way back in. To give you an idea of how short the pumps are, the guy that bought my boat went to fill it up there, they charged him for 300 gallons... it only tanks 230 max, 115 in each tank. NEVER use that Circle K!

Real life experience talking here.

I know some of the guy's at Beaver Stripes as they've been hooked up with our open wheeled community for some time. Found this picture on their FB page, and a lot of Sprint cars drivers like it.46373118_2061334570592741_3451912151197810688_o.jpg

Possible spare on a kicker bracket?? Cheap insurance.
