So I'm in town and was contemplating sending my self money went overboard on bill, Cheaper to send myself money or use ATM with B of A card. I think you get better rate with Western Union. They charge 5 bucks. Help....

I always use an ATM, using a Capitol One 360 debit card. No fees (other than the ATM fee of 30 pesos using a Banamex ATM) also got 18.05-1 last week at the ATM in Supernorte.
Intercam also gives a decent exchange rate. I use this site to see where to get pesos.

I have my withdrawal limit set to $1,000 US per daily transaction.

I use my Fidelity Rewards Visa card that is tied to a cash core account at the ATM. Fidelity refunds all fees incurred back into that account in a day or so.

I may be mistaken, but wasn't it Stuart who created a thread on this about a year+ ago. The bank he worked at designed a way for money to be transferred between the US and Mexico with little cost and little hassle.

https://wolfstreet.com/2018/05/14/strange-things-are-happening-in-mexicos-banking-system/ . Wow...this is scary...and actually in Mexico!

A wake up call for anyone who still has deposits in the Mexican Banking system.

By interesting coincidence I just completed a research contract on cybercrime. Due to the interconnectedness of Mexico's banking system (as compared to the segmentation in the US) the investigation would affect more banks, but it doesn't mean that more banks were breached. Mexico banks, in general, are no more or less vulnerable than than US banks. On a side note, the most versatile US bank with the lowest costs to withdraw money in foreign ATM's (including in Mexico) in Charles Schwab Bank. The downside is you also need to open an investment account, although you don't have to fund it. The bank in Rocky Point that consistently gives the best exchange rate though their ATMs is Intercam. That's not to say that either of these is the easiest to do business with etc, just represent the lowest cost and best exchange rate.

I still remember the seventies when US and Canadians were ecstatic about the high interest rates they were receiving on their Mexican bank, dollar accounts, only to discover that when a particularly severe peso crunch came along their only option was to take withdrawals in pesos. Many nest eggs disappeared.

I've seen more than a few people get wiped out by not being diversified and just being too Greedy. Never put all your egg's in the same nest.

Unfortunately, older people especially are usually very vulnerable and no match for the hustlers and con men and many have their life’s savings wiped out. This appears to be on the increase for the “baby boomers”and is always very sad to see.

I lost just under a million dollars in the 07-08-09 debacle....and not in Mexico.....in the good ole USA. Bankers are criminals and trust in them is foolish but one country is no better than the other. I am still bullish on my current position. I tried the other one and it left me unfulfilled

Obrador is looking pretty strong...We might see some changes in our freedoms to make the occasional peso down here..What's not priced into most calculations is that the leftist front-runner could also enjoy a congressional majority after the July 1 vote, making it easier for him to reset Mexican economic policy. That scenario looks increasingly likely, according to analysts from Eurasia Group and UBS AG.

Again, we're all in trouble if the Socialist becomes president. Hugo Chavez, Maduro, Venezuela are all a examples of how well that works.

Scare tactics but how it ends is anyone's guess . Another view http://foreignpolicy.com/2018/04/17/andres-manuel-lopez-obrador-is-no-hugo-chavez/

They can keep telling us that, but I'm not buying it! "López Obrador's problem is that he does not want to be compared to Chávez, but he does not do anything to disconnect from him either."

Call different banks and ask each what costs are. We quit using B of A as they were the highest in the past
Do your research and save.
